News About Us
Keeping tradition alive, SnoWest Magazine has again awarded West Yellowstone with the #2 position the Top 15 Trails in the West for snowmobilers. Each year, the magazine sends out nearly 2,000 surveys and asks readers to rank their favorites according to ten different categories (from scenery and grooming to weather). West Yellowstone has held spot #1 or #2 for the past eleven years. To quote, “West Yellowstone is still the Snowmobile Capital of the World. After all, people travel from all over the world to ride a snowmobile here….sledders have been playing here for a half-century or more – lots of snow, unique and rugged scenery, well-groomed trails, ample off-trail riding, excellent boondocking and Yellowstone National Park.”
Painted Buffalo Hibernate for the Winter!
Most of West Yellowstone’s herd of 26 painted buffalo will be
leaving their outside locations and moving indoors to hibernate over
the winter in a local warehouse. On June 9th, 2008 the herd returns
and will be corralled together on the lawn of the Yellowstone Historic
Museum Center.
Over the winter, a new group of buffalo calves will be “born” and also painted by western artists. The new group of calves will be unveiled on June 14th, 2008 and will be herded (along with the cows) to their new summer locations on June 15th.
Also planned is an Art Show featuring Northwestern Regional Art from June 13-15th at the nearby Union Pacific Hall. This show is open to the public and will feature artwork by many of the painted buffalo artists and others.
