August 23-27, 2010: Youth Soccer Camp
This #1 British Soccer Camp for youth ages 4 to 16, sponsored by the West Yellowstone Recreation Department, brings amazing coaches (with their British accent, too!) who make learning soccer fun!
Mini-Soccer for ages 4 to 6 provides games, competitions and skill-building activities for one-and-a-half hours a day for five days. In the meantime the Half-Day Player Development Camp for ages 6 to 16 will place emphasis upon skill development, mastery of core techniques, small group practices and coached games. This group meets for three hours a day for five days.

August 24-28, 2010: The National Fly Fishing Fair & Conclave
This year’s event, “Education, Inspiration, Celebration” again brings great seminars and classes by world renown fly fishers, the best in fly tiers and the best in gear to West Yellowstone just as the largest crowds leave and the fishing goes from good to great! Member seminars and classes run from August 24th through the 28th, including some excellent non-angling opportunities. The Fair, open to the general public, opens on Thursday, August 26th. Wander among fly tiers in several West Yellowstone locations. They not only tie, they talk and love to share their passion for this great sport. August 25, 2010: Grand Opening Old Faithful Visitor Education Center
The National Park Service is inviting the public to join in the dedication ceremony of the new Old Faithful Visitor Education Center, which starts at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, August 25.
Superintendent Suzanne Lewis is hosting the event, which will feature the park’s Mounted Color Guard, music by the Wyoming National Guard’s 67th Army Band, and remarks by several special guests, with noted Yellowstone historian and author Paul Schullery giving the keynote address.
Once the doors to the new facility open at the conclusion of the ceremony, visitors can take advantage of refreshments and special programs, as they marvel at the interactive exhibits in the new building including a working model geyser.

August 28, 2010: Pine Needle Stampede

Run or walk! This is a relaxed race and a great family event. As summer moves into fall, it feels like a celebration. A festival atmosphere prevails as walkers and runners from all over the area gather to test themselves on 5K and 10K courses. Race starts at 9am. There is a kid's race too! A FREE kid’s fun run will start at 10:15am. The traffic-free route winds its way into the national forest along the Rendezvous Trail System, which serves cross-country skiers in winter and mountain bikers in summer. T-shirts, snacks, and thirst quenchers are all included. The Pine Needle Stampede is a non-profit foot race with all proceeds benefiting the West Yellowstone Community. Cash awards and raffle items are presented directly after the race at the Rendezvous Trailhead building. Bring the whole family and enjoy the trails! |

All national parks, national wildlife refuges, and many areas managed by the Bureau of Land Management will offer FREE admission on September 25 (Public Lands Day), and November 11th (Veterans Day).
September 25, 2010: West Yellowstone Old Faithful Cycle Tour
What a terrific way to wind down a summer of riding and a unique way to experience Yellowstone National Park. Fall is a gorgeous time to be in the Park the elk are bugling, the aspens have turned to gold, and the nearly crowd-free thermal areas continue to beckon the explorer. The supported ride is sixty miles round trip, with options available for one way travel. Cyclists in the tour can take advantage of two feed stations, three sag wagons, on-course bike mechanics, and end the day with a group meal. This is a must for every cross-country skier! West Yellowstone literally comes alive in lycra in November. Hundreds of Nordic ski enthusiasts from all over the world, novice to expert, gather to learn more about the sport, practice techniques and see new equipment. Early snows, superb grooming, racing opportunities and the Nordic Skiing Exposition make this an especially inviting time. On-snow clinics take place between November 24-28. SuperTour Ski Races are scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

This event is open to all interested skiers. No previous biathlon or shooting experience is necessary. A safety clinic will be held just prior to the start of the race. All new biathletes are encouraged to participate in the FREE "Try Biathlon" clinic at the range on Tuesday from 10:30am to noon.

The yips of eager dogs will pierce the winter mornings as mushers prepare for the return of Sled Dog Races to West Yellowstone. After three-year hiatus, paws will pound across the Old Airport as sleds and mushers head off down the trail. Thursday 3-5 pm meet the mushers and their canine athletes in front of Wild West Pizzeria. Races begin at 9:00 both days with 12-dog teams the first off. 8-dog and 6-dog teams followed by Junior Race, 4 dog teams. Awards will follow Sundays races at Wild West Pizzeria. |

January 2011: Skier Avalanche Safety Course
The US Forest Service will offer an Avalanche Awareness Workshop for Skiers and Snowmobilers. Topics include: Avalanche terrain recognition, the affect weather has on avalanche hazard, development of mountain snow pack, decision making skills, and basic search and rescue procedures. Snowmobilers will need a reliable snowmobile and basic mountain riding skills. Skiers and boarders will need skins or snowshoes for uphill travel. An avalanche rescue beacon and shovel is required. March 15, 2010: Yellowstone Closes to Over-the-Snow Travel
Today is the last full day for winter travel into Yellowstone. Yellowstone's west entrance will reopen to vehicle travel April 16, 2009, when regular vehicle travel begins from the West Entrance.

March 5, 2011: 32st Yellowstone Rendezvous Ski Race
With the blast of a black powder canon, racers sprint out to compete in a variety of age classes and distances in both classic and freestyle of 5 to 50K lengths. Hundreds of skiers come from across the nation to participate (typically 600-900). The 50 kilometers is over 31 miles and races make two laps on the outmost trails of the Rendezvous system. Five feed stations are located along the course and staffed with local groups and volunteers. Cash prizes are awarded but to many skiers, just finishing is the prize!

March 6, 2011: West Yellowstone Youth Ski Festival
The Youth Ski Festival was created to encourage families to
stay the whole weekend of the Rendezvous Race. This event is a fun way
to wind down after the big race. All kids aged 13 years and younger are
encouraged to play on skis. We will typically offer events such as: a relay
race, an obstacle course, musical chairs, and a sprint. Parents are
encouraged to cheer on all the little skiers.

Photographers are invited to share their favorite winter photos of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem during a Winter Photo Festival. March 19-20, 2011: Equinox Ski Challenge
The Equinox Ski Challenge is a springtime celebration, a season finale and also among the most challenging ski races in the world. This event is ingrained with camaraderie, challenge, and commitment to the well-being of the local community. Skiers of all abilities can
compete as a soloist or in a relay team of up to 8 members. The goal is to have a lot of fun and also complete as many laps as you can in the 24 Minute Kids Race, 3 Hour, 6 Hour, 12 Hour or 24 Hour divisions. That’s right, a 24 hour race. Saturday night marks the midpoint and is celebrated with a bonfire and potluck dinner. Race profits are donated to WYSEF, Manaia Youth Programs, and the West Yellowstone Food Bank. How far can you go?

This is an annual event held at the Madison Arm Resort on the south shore of Hebgen Lake. The triathlon hosts many athletes from Montana, Idaho, Utah and Canada. The race course is entirely within the Gallatin National Forest and does not conflict with any vehicular traffic. Participants will be placed in a ge categories per the USA Triathlon requirements. The race starts at 10:00am and should be completed by about 1:00pm. Proceeds go to athletic scholarships and cancer research.

June 25, 2011: Mountain Bike Biathlon

The West Yellowstone Ski Education Foundation (WYSEF) will host a Mountain Bike Biathlon on the Rendezvous Ski Trails on June 26, 2010. This unique event combines mountain biking and target shooting. Racers will complete five laps totaling 12.5k and four shooting bouts. All athletes are welcome to participate and no shooting experience is required. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers. A traditional summer biathlon clinic (running and shooting) takes place on Sunday, June 27 and features shooting techniques, racing strategies, and a time trial. Pre-registration is required. All national parks, national wildlife refuges, and many areas managed by the Bureau of Land Management will offer FREE admission on June 5-6, August 14-15, September 25 (Public Lands Day), and November 11th (Veterans Day).

This day commemorates the arrival in West Yellowstone of the first Union Pacific passenger train filled with Yellowstone bound tourists in 1908. Special Reception for the opening exhibition of "Wings into West". FREE admission to the Yellowstone Historic Center Museum!

Motorcycle Poker Run and Outdoor BBQ Fund Raising Event

Sponsored by the Hebgen Basin Volunteer Fire Department. Enjoy an outdoor BBQ of hamburgers, hotdog's, chili and chips for a donation in the Chamber of Commerce Parking lot from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm; join in the fun of the 3rd annual motorcycle poker run; and then feast at the pig roast in Pioneer Park. All proceeds raised from these events will go toward supporting various community needs. |
July 4, 2011: Music in the Park
Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, picnics (although the Fire Department will be cooking' up their barbeque benefit) and the kids. Enjoy a casual evening of live music in the great outdoors! This summer's first evening of Music in the Park will open with the Granite Youth Symphony and will feature TBA. Free of charge and begins in the Town Park immediately following the parade.

Brutus, Cassius, and other high-ranking Romans plot to murder Caesar, because they believe his ambition will lead to tyranny. The people of Rome are on their side until Antony, Caesar's right-hand man, makes a moving speech. The conspirators are driven from Rome, and two armies are formed: one side following the conspirators; the other, Antony. Antony has the superior force, and surrounds Brutus and Cassius... Free - 6:00 pm front lawn of the Union Pacific Dining Lodge.

During this three-day event, artists and crafter's offer a variety of unique handmade items, including wood carvings, metal work, photography, jewelry, Indian art work, quilts and wildlife cabin decor items.

July 2011: Free Mountain Bike Tour of the Rendezvous Ski Trails
The West Yellowstone Ski Education Foundation would like to welcome mountain bike riders of all abilities on a guided ride of the local trails Wednesday, July 28, 2010. Meet board member Kelli Sanders at Freeheel and Wheel (40 Yellowstone Ave.) at 5pm and be ready to roll. This is a great opportunity to explore West Yellowstone’s bike trails with a local expert and bike shop owner. Get the inside track on the trails near town. Just show up with your mountain bike, helmet, and water. The group will set the pace with novice riders and families encouraged to participate.
